The Foursquare Church recently tapped Radar to help produce the Foursquare Live! event. With only three weeks notice, Radar helped TFC coordinate the lighting and live video elements for a live concert event on March 12th in Eagle Rock. The April 5th event was a combination of pre-taped concert footage from the 12th, and a 4-camera live studio portion that was broadcast to more than 200 churches nationwide in both English and Spanish. The 5-hour satellite event was transmitted live from HD Vision Broadcast Center in Studio City with the help of CCN and PACSAT. Radar's Matthew Warren directed the simulcast with Derek Williams and Drew Lucas serving as co-producer and stage manager respectively.
I found this video today. It's from September 2004. It made me want to go back to Uganda. This is a 24P showreel that Radar cut together featuring footage from the Panasonic 100A, which Radar had just purchased at the time. It was intended to show how video holds up in harsh sunlight, silked environments, available interior light and long lens situations. I'm looking forward to seeing the new showreel once we shoot some footage on the HPX3000.

So HD DVD is officially dead. Toshiba announced today that they would discontinue developing, manufacturing and marketing HD DVD players and recorders. The announcement ends a two-year-long battle with Blu-ray Disc to succeed DVD (even though Blu-ray still has a long way to go since most players are still experiencing incredible-long load times and glitches with the firmware). The move came soon after both Wal-Mart and Netflix announced they would only carry Blu-ray product, and Best Buy announced it would give preference to Blu-ray. Warner Home Video's decision in early January to only support Blu-ray left HD DVD with Paramount Home Entertainment and Universal Studios Home Entertainment as the only major studios supporting the format. Hardware sales data the week after Warner's announcement showed 93% of high-def players sold were Blu-ray, according to The NPD Group, and Nielsen VideoScan data has consistently shown Blu-ray software outselling HD DVD 3:1 or more. Toshiba significantly lowered its player prices during the holiday season, and Microsoft dropped the price of its Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on by $50 earlier this month. Toshiba also bought a 30-second Super Bowl ad for a reported $2.7 million, but apparently was not effective in boosting sales or digging into Blu-ray's lead.
What do you think? Will you miss HD DVD or is it "c'est la vie"?

Drew, Derek and I went to Irvine yesterday to film Tim Timmons for our upcoming QUAD DVD. We recorded Tim performing two of his new songs and then sat down with him for an on-camera interview. Tim has a great testimony and his music is powerful. We're excited about having him be a part of the first QUAD DVD. We used two HVX200's which allowed Drew to edit on the way home.
Lunch on the set of the Jafra Class Video.
Radar is in post production on two Jafra Class videos: one in English and one in Spanish. The two 20-minute videos were shot on DVCPRO50 and were lit by Darren Rydstrom. Both videos teach viewers how to host a Jafra Pamper Party and Class in their own home and the benefits of Jafra's new product line (due to launch next month). Renee Raudman (Enlgish) and Raquel Fourmier (Spanish) served as Hosts with a cast of ladies that included Robin Phelps and Gigi Palomera. Filming took place over two days in Thousand Oaks. New pictures from our recent trip to Peru have been uploaded to the photo albums on the left. Out of 700 images, these were the best. Enjoy!
Radar Creative was tapped by Wendy Creed Productions for the premiere of the latest Harry Potter movie last week. Radar's Drew Lucas created 12 After Effects comps for 12 vertical plasmas that were designed to look like old picture frames. Each "painting" featured a character from the movie posing and looking directly into camera. Every once in awhile, a character would blink or slightly move its head as guests walked down the long hallway inside the premiere after-party (produced by Wendy Creed). Radar teamed up with Warner Bros. Visual FX house in London to accomplish the end result.
Drew and I filmed Luigi, the inventor of jazz dance technique, for Steve Hand today. We filmed at his studio on 68th street and then at his home in the city. Thanks to Luigi and Francis for letting us tag along. Pictures coming soon.

Drew and I will be shooting in New York next week for Steve Hand's documentary on Luigi, a famous choreographer who's taught everyone from Liza Minelli to John Travolta. Once we get back to LA, Drew will cut together a 10 minute trailer in order to raise the necessary funds to shoot the entire doc. More on that later.

FSI picked up 5 more awards from the Aurora Awards yesterday. FSI won in the categories of Issue Awareness, Writing, Directing, Cinematography and Editing. FSI has won a total of 12 awards and was an official selection for the World of Comedy Film Festival in Toronto this year. Plans are underway to send the film to all financial legislative committees nationwide.
Many of you have seen the recent headlines about the subprime mortgage market and foreclosures that could easily affect the entire housing market, which makes up 16% of the Gross Domestic Product. Fraud has been the under-reported story in these headlines, and we’ll all start hearing more and more about how the consequences of greed and criminal activity in terms of “little ol’ mortgage fraud” will affect us all.
Hopefully this film will continue to educate law makers, law enforcers and industry professionals for years to come – or until we focus on the next film.
